At 18 years old, Alice was thriving
academically – she was the top
student in her grade.
Despite her book smarts, there was one subject about which she had no knowledge: sexual and reproductive health.
Her hectic schedule meant that she only saw her boyfriend on the weekend. One night they had sex for the first time and because she knew nothing about contraception and STDs, she fell pregnant. She was too scared to tell her parents and saw her future crumbling before her eyes.
However, her friend told her about Marie Stopes and, although skeptical, Alice made an appointment. The staff were professional and supportive and told her she has the legal right to a safe abortion and also didn’t require parental consent to have an abortion. She had the procedure and will be heading to university next year on a full academic scholarship.

How we help
Our vision is to raise awareness about accessibility to women’s healthcare facilities throughout the country for women who need safe and legal
abortion care. Let’s work together towards a future where every birth is wanted.
